Welcome to the Slingdom
Sling Foundations
Sling is a unique aerial apparatus, resembling a set of silks rigged upside-down. It combines elements from various aerial disciplines such as lyra, trapeze, and silks. Whether you’re familiar with these disciplines or completely new to aerial, sling offers an exciting journey. Unlike aerial yoga, expect movement and sweat in this class! We’ll explore spinning, inverting, sequencing, and discovering new moves within the sling’s loop. For comfort, wear clothing that covers your midriff, armpits, and backs of knees. Initially snug, the apparatus will feel more comfortable with time and practice.
Prerequisites: NONE! Just come with an open mind and a willingness to try something new.
Sling Layering
So, you’re getting pretty comfortable on the sling and want to take your journey in the Slingdom to the next step. In Sling Layering, we’re going to get weird! We’ll build on the skills covered in Sling Foundations and dive deeper into wrap theory, improvisation, momentum, and pathway exploration. We’ll start stacking drops and learning skills from standing in the sling, as well as putting together longer and more intricate sequences.
Prerequisites: Discussion with Foundations or Layering/Ology instructor required. This class will utilize some prerequisite concepts and skills, and we want to make sure you will be safe and successful with the content and difficulty level of the class.
Slingology
Ready to dive deeper into sling theory and concepts? Slingology offers four-week deep dives into specific wraps and skills, with a new focus each month. Topics include wrap theory, anatomy, and the physics behind sling techniques. Expect collaborative learning with plenty of discussion and discoveries. Please commit to all 4-5 class iterations per month as the curriculum progresses. Prerequisites include comfort with sling layering-level material, the ability to sequence for at least 90 seconds, and proficiency in executing certain moves. Bring your critical thinking cap and desire to explore!
